A Mutambara woman who was being accused of causing the death of a toddler 23 years ago has been exonerated, although the deceased’s avenging spirit still insists that she should still compensate his spirit with 10 herd of cattle.

It was believed that Lettie Chipatiso was the mastermind behind Lazarus Gugugu’s death.

However, tables turned when the two families visited Prophet Mhlanga of Zion Church after acting Chief Mutambara ordered them to do so last week.

Speaking through its medium, Primrose Mukwada, the spirit said it was only haunting Chipatiso as she was not remorseful over his death.

When asked on why the spirit had been accusing Chipatiso of killing him, the spirit medium remained quite.

“I am angry because Chipatiso did not show any remorse over my death. I had escorted her to the river when I drowned, but she acted as if I was there on my own volition. She did not contribute anything towards my funeral when she was the one who took me to the river,” said Lazarus’ spirit.

After exonerating Chipatiso of killing him, Lazarus demanded 10 cattle as appeasement for his death.

The spirit threatened to continue wreaking havoc in the Simango family by shaving people’s heads and private parts.
Chipatiso is married to a Simango.

Her brother-in-law, Amos Simango, said a prophet had told them that the mysterious occurrences in their family were being caused by the avenging spirit of the late Lazarus Gugugu Nyamashanga who was only two years old when he drowned in a river in 1999.

The late toddler was in the company of Chipatiso when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Chipatiso was in the company of another woman, Tsverukai Mwoto, when the child died and the police ruled out any foul play.

Simango said they are now used to waking up with shaved private parts and heads as Lazarus’ spirit seeks to avenge his death.

“Our private parts and heads are being shaved by the avenging spirit. We have resolved to stay bold.

“When we relieve ourselves in buckets during the night, the urine mysteriously evaporates during the course of the night. We believe the urine is being drunk by mysterious beings,” said Simango.

He further stated that his children are suffering from mysteriously ailments, adding that doctors have failed to diagnose their illnesses.

“They only tell us that they do not have enough blood in their bodies, but they do not know the exact disease they are suffering from. However, a prophet told us that an avenging spirit is behind all this,” said Simango.

Chipatiso said her only option is to divorce her husband as she has no cattle to appease the spirit.

“I think divorcing my husband is the only option because the spirit keeps accusing me of causing the boy’s death. If I am no longer in this family, I am sure all the mysterious occurrences will stop and follow me to wherever I will be. I have no cattle and my father is a poor man.

“However, I am happy that I have been exonerated. I did not kill this child. I am glad that the truth has been revealed and I am now a free person,” she said.
