Whoever said progress was a slow process, has never seen what the young children can do, given the platform. It was a night of success last Thursday at Avondale Primary School’s annual Speech and Prize giving Day with students from ECD up to Grade Seven receiving prizes for their academic excellence.
The students were awarded prizes ranging from books, cash, trophies and shields which were sponsored by NMB Bank, Unique Travel and Excel Images.
The principal also donated a trophy for infants best class which was Grade 2L. Prizes were awarded for best students in various subjects, overall positions in the classes and progress
Some students received more than three prizes depending with the subjects and sporting activities that they do at the school.
Students like Tanatswa Manyakara (Grade Seven), Rufaro Chiponyera (Grade Six), Chiroodza Panashe (Grade Six) and Chivinge Kimberly (Grade Five) scooped first position prizes on overall class position.
In separate interviews with this publication, some of the students who were awarded with prizes could not hide their excitement and thanked the school authorities for the prizes.
“I am so happy to have won this trophy and money. When I heard about the prize I never thought I would receive a trophy. I want to thank the sponsors and the school for such a present,” said Tanatswa Manyakara.
The school deputy head Mrs Chikanyau, could not hide her feelings and how proud she is with Avondale Primary students. She expressed her excitement for being part of this school staff, and how students have made the parents and staff proud for the past years and they are also expecting good results from the Grade Seven candidates. Their pass rate has been excellent in all subjects and have obtained top position on provincial level.
“They do not only focus on academic work but also encourage the students to do sporting activities, allied arts and contemporary music.
The acting school head Fungai Mufakose expressed her gratitude in her speech on how the parents have been their pillar of strength for they always support everything that the school intends to do.
“Our students are always producing excellent results and all this is magnificently supported by our parents and through us and also collectively.
“Giving prizes to the students
who have improved is a very noble idea as it boosts students’ confidence
and morale and I thank the school for that,” said Kimberly Chivhinge (Grade Five).
Entertainment came from all classes as they did poems,marimba, traditional dance and plays from ECD classes.
The function was graced by Mr Thompson Katanda who is the chairperson of the education committee. He also noted how the Avondale Primary parents are so much involved in the school activities
“Schools cannot do the job without the full support and involvement of parents in their children’s education.
“Parents play a vital role and supportive role to the learners and to the school hence there should be a working relationship between parents and the school,” he said.
