Vuyo Dabula, who shocked many fans when he announced at the beginning of this month that he was leaving South Africa’s most popular soapie, Generations: The Legacy, has revealed the real reasons why he quit his lead role.
“I was sceptical about being part of the soapie right from the beginning,” Dabula, who played the mafia character of Kumkani “Gadaffi” Phakade, told The Citizen.
He said though he joined the soapie anyway, he knew he was not going to last long.
“I knew I wasn’t going to be in it (Generations) for too long as I knew the kind of performance style I liked and what was required by the soapie.”
The 38-year-old actor felt the quality of his acting would have been compromised, had he stayed longer on the soapie.
“Being on a soapie means everything happens very fast and there’s a big focus on quantity instead of quality.”
Dabula assured fans that the end of Gadaffi did not mean the end of Dabula insisting: “I’m still going to be on TV.” — Sowetan.
