adminSwansea City forward Andre Ayew was on Saturday morning named as one of five players shortlisted for the prestigious 2015 BBC African Footballer of the Year award.
Ayew, who is vice captain of the Black Stars was shortlisted along with Manchester City’s Yaya Toure, Southampton’s Sadio Mane, current award holder Yacine Brahimi and Borussia Dortmund’s goal star Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.
Andre Ayew won the award in 2011 with Yaya Toure also winning it in 2013. The eventual winner will be announced on December 11 2015.
Meanwhile, the assistant Ghana captain Ayew suffered a slight knee injury during Saturday’s training at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Black Stars team arrived in their home capital just after dawn following a 0-0 draw with Comoros on Friday in the first leg of the round two qualifier for the Fifa 2018 World Cup.
The influential player was widely acclaimed as Ghana’s best man against the islanders and ahead of the second leg in Kumasi, a potential absence will be keenly missed.
The Swansea forward pulled out of the warm up recovery session to seek medical attention, with a look of concern etched across coach Avram Grant’s face. The second leg will be tomorrow. — supersport.com
