B-Metro Comment: GO WARRIORS GO!!

The hour has come, indeed the moment of truth is upon us. Zimbabwe’s Warriors march onto the pitch against Egypt in Cairo this Friday carrying the hopes of a cautiously optimistic nation.

Though expectant the nation has every reason to be cautious seeing that our side is facing the hosts who will be backed by a vociferous crowd and seeking to start their campaign on home soil on a positive note and send chills down the spines of other opponents at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

We believe at this juncture it is quite critical that we pay tribute to all that played a part in preparing the Warriors for one of their biggest assignments. It has been a long journey though, even the players themselves will admit that their preparations this time around have been much better than their previous preparations for tournaments. We may not have the numbers in terms of supporters in Egypt but we believe that back home most Zimbabweans will be backing the boys to do well in the tournament.  Though load-shedding might see many failing to follow proceedings in Cairo, Zimbabweans generally wish the boys well since they represent all of us.

It is that time when the players need to dig deep and hoist our flag high since our pride is at stake here.  While the nation does not expect miracles from the team, it definitely yearns for a show of commitment and sacrificial defence of the pride of the motherland.  It is our belief that where there is maximum application, team spirit and an unwavering focus on the bigger picture, nothing can stand in the way of our boys. The national team has been on the big stage before where they battled against some of the best and left a mark. While the enthusiasm was certainly within the earlier crew, the tenacity and experience to last the distance in such a contest was painfully lacking. It is our hope that a detailed analysis of our previous campaigns has been done and corrective action taken during our preparations so that we go a notch higher in our performance and produce results that show that each time we faltered we gained greatly in terms of lessons. We have the players for the assignment in Egypt, and with the right team spirit and tactics, the team should go far. An expectant nation stands ready to cheer the team on, to break into their hunting song, a hunt in the land of Pharoahs. Go Warriors Go!
