Christmas time is celebrated the world over and it has different meanings to different people. For some it is a time to be away from work and spend time with family, while for others it is time to embark on marathon drinking escapades and for others it is a time of reflection and thanksgiving for having made it through the year.
Whichever category one chooses, the common theme is that of joyfulness. It is against this background that we should spare a thought for the underprivileged this festive season and share even the little that we have.
The economy has been unforgiving and the many vices around us, show how difficult times have become. However, we believe, as Zimbabweans our hearts are much bigger and that we shall embrace those less fortunate than us so that they do not miss out on the Christmas spirit. Some call this period a time of giving.
There is so much that we can give, apart from material things.A Being there for those that we love and giving our time to help some people out this festive season could give some people their best Christmas. The number of street children and street people has been growing at an alarming rate though we believe that if those that can could adopt just one street person for the day, they would have a wonderful Christmas.
Just a day or some minutes of love could change their despair into hope for a better future. Let us remember our relatives in hospitals, in jail and in homes.
It is important that we do not make any of our loved ones feel forgotten during this time of merry making. We have had mental hospitals especially pointing out that relatives tended to dump patients there and never went back to check on them and give them support to aid their healing.
Also, there are also those that found themselves on the wrong side of the law and were jailed for one reason or another. Let us show them love not only during Christmas but it is more important during this time when families come together.
There are also childrenas homes and old peopleas homes that we can visit and cheer up the inmates. Indeed we can pray for these from our different homes but the Bible says faith without works is dead.
It is also during this time of celebration that we have witnessed some recklessness on the roads and elsewhere due to over-drinking. It is our hope that we shall enjoy ourselves responsibly this festive season and march into the New Year whole.
We would like to especially caution the youth against over indulgence in alcohol during this time since there are so many mistakes that many have made after having one too many. Stay safe in this season of celebration so that you may be around to give your best next year. .
