B-Metro’s reporter wins another award

B-Metro Reporter

B-Metro senior reporter Gibson Mhaka was the toast of the day after bagging two awards at this year’s edition of the Mining Media Awards (MMA) held in Harare on Thursday last week.

Mhaka was named Overall Mining Sector Reporter of the Year. The multiple award-winning journalist, Mhaka who last year also dominated at the Mining Media Awards won the Small Scale and Artisanal Mining Award and Chrome Sector Best Reporter Award.

For his sterling effort Mhaka got cash prizes, certificates and trophies.

Mhaka was awarded for his in-depth and well researched stories which were published in our sister paper The Chronicle. The stories titled: Expedite investment in the occupational health and safety of miners and Chrome mining beset by a host of challenges, depicted a myriad of challenges bedevilling the mining sector.

An elated Mhaka said he owed his success to the team effort at Zimpapers.

“I am humbled to win these awards in a row. I owe my success to my family and the people I work with at Zimpapers. Winning these awards would not have been possible without the inspiration I have received from the editors, my seniors and colleagues. “I believe as a journalist, we all have voices. It’s time we amplify those voices, telling more stories like these,” said Mhaka.

The ceremony was graced by Minister of Mines and Mining Development Winston Chitando and Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa who both commended reporters for covering mining related issues saying it helped to market the sector to potential investors.
