THE Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) has closed entries for this year’s last track and field championship to be held at White City Stadium on Saturday.
Bab chairman Watson Madanyika said they are bringing the curtain down to their shortened season by giving athletes a chance to improve their times ahead of the 2022 season.
“The event also presents athletes with a competitive training session before they head to AUSC Region 5 Under-20
Games in Lesotho nnext month,” said Madanyika.
He said the event is not on the official calendar, but they had slotted it in to give Team Zimbabwe a chance to fine-tune their preparations for the Lesotho Games, as athletes will get to know which areas they have to improve on.
Athletes will test themselves in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1 500m, 5 000m, 10 000m, 4x100m relay, long jump and high jump.
Meanwhile, the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) held an International Level 1 coaching course, which was attended by 16 participants in Bulawayo last week.
The course was targeting coaches from grassroots development and was facilitated by Naaz director of coaching, talent identification and development Lisimati Phakamile.
It focused on the introduction to international coaching from developmental stage of youth and junior athletes to national or elite performers. — @innocentskizoe
