BULAWAYO’S top athletes are set to converge at White City Stadium on May 16 for the Bulawayo Track and Field Championships, with organisers declaring they are fully prepared for the event.

The Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) has invited athletes from across the city and surrounding areas to compete in what promises to be a thrilling showcase of speed, endurance and field excellence.

Bab chairperson Watson Madanyika says all systems are in place for the championships, with preparations progressing smoothly ahead of the big day.

“We are ready to host the Bab Track and Field Championships and preparations have gone according to plan. We are expecting a competitive event with athletes from different clubs and schools coming to White City Stadium to showcase their talent,” said Madanyika.

He said the board is confident the event will live up to expectations and provide athletes with an important platform to compete and assess their progress.

“This is a key event on our calendar because it gives athletes a chance to test themselves while also allowing us to identify talent for future competitions. We want to see strong participation and quality performances across all events,” he said.

The championships are expected to feature a full programme of track and field events, drawing both established athletes and emerging talent eager to make their mark.

Entry fees have been pegged at US$3 per athlete and US$6 per relay team, a move organisers believe will encourage wider participation.

Madanyika has urged athletes, schools and clubs to register in large numbers and be part of what is expected to be one of Bulawayo’s major athletics events this season.

Bulawayo has traditionally been a breeding ground for some of Zimbabwe’s top athletes, and the championships are seen as another opportunity to continue that proud legacy.

With excitement building, White City Stadium is expected to come alive as athletes battle for top honours in a competition that could also shape future national representation.
