A BABY was strangled and the body dumped at a council landfill in Richmond, Bulawayo councillors heard.
The body was found by a machine operator levelling waste at the site. The latest council minutes do not state when the body was discovered, but claim the baby had been “strangled”.

“A report was made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police who came and collected the body. The culprit who committed the murder was unknown,” the minutes add.

Baby dumping cases continue to rise. In January this year, three incidents of baby dumping were reported within two weeks.

Last month, a human skull suspected to belong to a baby was found in Njube suburb.

A week after the Njube incident, another baby was dumped in Pelandaba.

Between January and October last year, police recorded 89 cases of infanticide, a slight increase from 2013 which recorded 87 cases over the same period.
