BAC maintain top spot in BMCA First League

BULAWAYO Athletic Club (BAC) remain on top of the Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association (BMCA) First League standings despite being winless for two straight matches after their Saturday match against Queens Sports Club was abandoned due to rain.

BAC, batting first posted 240-4 in 43 overs courtesy of a Thamsanqa Nunu unbeaten 119 runs off 112 deliveries. However, the match could not go ahead for the second innings due to persistent rains thus being called off. The no result match comes after they lost their previous encounter against Amakhosi by one run through the Duckworth and Lewis method.

With Nunu scoring a well batted hundred, he was supported by Vitalis Bawu who fell one run short of a half century on 49 runs. For Queens, Mgcini Dube, Petros Sithole, Nkosi Ndiweni and Shaun Joseph took one wicket each.

The results meant that BAC solidified their spot at the helm of the league standings with 23 points from five matches. They won three, lost one and the other was a no result. Amakhosi in second place have 20 points while Queens have 15 points and bottom placed Nketa Cricket Club have three points.

Thamsanqa Nunu

The other match between Nketa Cricket Club and Amakhosi Cricket Club was also rained off in the second innings with Amakhosi chasing. Nketa was bowled out for 121 in 29. 2 overs and rain stopped play when Amakhosi were batting on 21 for no loss in 5.3 overs.

However, there were no matches played in the second league which has taken a break and will resume next year with 40-over cricket. – @brandon_malvin
