AS all the attention was on high-riding Scott Vincent and Sean Crocker, another Zimbabwean golfer Ray Badenhorst was making strides at Florida Tech in the United States last season.

Badenhorst, a former Philadelphia Learning Academy student, managed to win several accolades during the past season.

The player was named to FIT Athletic Director’s Honour Roll, Second Team All-SSC and GCAA All-South Region because he had played in 11 tournaments as a junior.

Badenhorst went on to help the team win the Full Moon Invitational after winning the individual championship and helped the Panthers earn the team championship at the Panther Invitational.

He was also named SSC Men’s Golfer of the Week for the month of March after recording four top 10 finishes, having played 32 rounds, and had just two not count towards the team score.

The former Royal Harare amateur finished the season with an average score of 72.72, the best average in programme history, which had 17 rounds of even-par or better, the most for a single season in programme history.

He went on to match the programme record for lowest round to par with a seven-under-par 65 at the Panther Invitational on March 17 to also set a programme record with 85 birdies which led to his nomination for the SSC Spring Commissioner’s Honour Roll.
