THE Bulawayo Amateur Football Association (Bafa) Townsend and Butcher Trophy final will be played at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday morning. It is the oldest soccer tournament with the first competition held in 1957 and with several stars having born at the competition.
Nga Chronicle and Mpilo United will clash for third place at 8.30am before the final which will precede two other big matches in the main stadium pitch with How Mine taking on Black Rhinos and Highlanders clashing with Triangle in the Mbada Diamond Cup.
Rebels FC and Golden Hotspurs will follow in the final of the prestigious tournament at 10.30am.
Bafa vice-chairman Charles Chunda said they expect good matches and a high turnout of fans.
“This is an annual tournament which has been played well in the past, so we expect fans to come in numbers and watch good soccer,” said Chunda.
It will be a repeat of last year’s final.
Mzilikazi teams Golden Hotspurs and Rebels FC will renew their rivalry.
Former Highlanders player and Golden Hotspurs manager Shepherd Mabaleka said he was confident that they would retain the trophy.
“We still have the same players from last year, so we can still do well and defend our title but we are not taking them lightly,” said Mabaleka.
Andile Khumalo, Freeman Ncube and Mabaleka are expected to be at their best for Golden Hotspurs.
