BAKALA’S UNIQUE CAPS UTD RECORD. . . beats FC Platinum, Scottland, Bosso, loses to lightweights

IAN Bakala has a unique record – beating the heavyweight clubs but then losing to the lightweights which has pushed CAPS United deep into relegation trouble.

Following Sunday’s defeat at home to ZPC Kariba, CAPS United are just three points above the relegation zone with seven matches remaining.

And their plight has somewhat been worsened by news that hardworking midfielder, Brighton Manhire, has been ruled out for the rest of the season following a head injury sustained during the match against FC Platinum at Mandava.

Bakala has had a frustrating 17 games as CAPS United head coach.

He has managed six wins, five draws and six defeats.

The 23 points from 17 matches place CAPS United 10th on the standings for the period under review.

Apart from a predictable win over bottom-placed newcomers, Kwekwe United, and a struggling Manica Diamonds, Bakala’s CAPS United claimed huge wins against Scottland, Chicken Inn, Highlanders and FC Platinum.

CAPS United won all the matches on a 1-0 scoreline.

However, they failed to build on the big wins and

move away from the relegation zone as they dropped points in 11 matches against Herentals, Dynamos, Greencroft, Triangle, TelOne, Ngezi Platinum, MWOS, Simba Bhora, Bikita Minerals, Yadah and ZPC Kariba.

Now they face a tough run-in where they will face Harare rivals Herentals and Dynamos in back-to-back assignments followed by tricky challenges against Simba Bhora, Manica Diamonds, Chicken Inn and MWOS.

With the relegation battle set to go all the way to the final day, the consolation for Bakala and CAPS United is that they face relegation favourites Kwekwe United at Bata Stadium on the final day of the season.
