Bakers Inn paid fees for the boys in addition to the sponsoring the school with cricket equipment, including playing kit and transport money, to fulfill their fixtures.
Alvin Chiradza, who is the Under-14 national team cricket all-rounder, is one of the candidates offered a scholarship by Bakers Inn.
Chiradza said he was happy with the scholarship that he believes will go a long way.
“I am very happy that I got a cricket scholarship, I love cricket and I believe the scholarship will take me a long way in future,” said Chiradza.
Tawanda Ruvanda and Clive Chiposi are the other two cricketers who have been awarded the Prince Edward scholarship.
In total the number of Chipembere Cricket Scholarships stands at 18 students.
This is the second year that Bakers Inn have partnered with Zimbabwe Cricket to help develop the game at grassroots level.
This year will see Bakers Inn extend their wings to other centres in Harare, including Chitungwiza.
Bakers Inn have acquired a bowling machine, which is to be used by all the high density cricket centres around Harare.
Zimbabwe Cricket national age group coach, David Mutendera, said Bakers Inn will be looking at offering cricket scholarships to promising future cricketers in other centres like Glen View, Budiriro, Mabvuku and Chitungwiza.
Mutendera said there was also mentioned the need to go into rural areas with the sport and he was hoping that other sponsors could come on board.
“These scholarships to Prince Edward will help the players by attending a prominent cricket playing school and playing against good opposition.
“We are so happy with scholarships and we just hope that other sponsors also come on board . . .” said Mutendera.
