BAL Qualifiers tip off in style, Zim Tourism Ministry beams with pride

The Road to Basketball Africa League (BAL) Road Group qualifiers got off to a resounding start in Harare, with the Tourism Ministry expressing delight at hosting the prestigious tournament.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Tongai Mnangagwa, praised the successful organisation of the event, highlighting its significance for Zimbabwe’s sports tourism.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Zimbabwe to showcase its capabilities in hosting world-class sporting events. We are thrilled to see the BAL qualifiers bringing together top African teams, and we’re committed to ensuring a memorable experience for players and fans alike.”

Hon Mnangagwa emphasised the potential of sports tourism to boost Zimbabwe’s economy.

“Sports tourism is a vital sector for us, and events like the BAL qualifiers help put Zimbabwe on the global map. We are promoting our beautiful country as a destination for sports enthusiasts, and we’re confident that this will translate into increased tourism revenue.”

The Deputy Minister applauded the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (BUZ) and Harare Basketball Association (HBA) for their tireless efforts in making the tournament a success.

“I commend BUZ and HBA for their hard work and dedication. Their partnership with the ZTA and Ministry of Tourism has been instrumental in delivering a seamless and exciting experience for all stakeholders.”

The BAL qualifiers feature top teams from South Sudan, Zambia, Malawi, Botswana, Mozambique and hosts, Zimbabwe. The tournament’s success is expected to pave the way for more international sporting events in Zimbabwe.

As the action unfolds on the court, Zimbabwe’s tourism sector is expected to score big, with visitors from across Africa flocking to Harare to witness the thrilling basketball action.
