BALDMIN Holdings, sponsors of the returning Bulawayo Half Marathon, have promised to provide athletes with a unique and enjoyable experience as the iconic event returns after a 20-year hiatus.

Set for April 19 at White City Stadium, the marathon is expected to reignite excitement in the streets of Bulawayo.

Previously sponsored by Coca-Cola, Baldmin Holdings has now taken up the mantle, covering 70% of the event’s costs.

The remaining 30% will be raised through local support, contributing to the event’s success.

Shingirai Sibanda, the Baldmin Holdings Group Production Manager said they are eagerly anticipating the event.

“As far as preparations go, everything is in order. We have regular meetings with organisers to ensure the event runs smoothly. Athletes can register at our Borrowdale offices in Harare or at SportsZone offices in Bulawayo.

“It’s exciting to be part of this historic event. We want this event to be a success. We are working around the clock to ensure a flawless experience. We aim to provide a unique and thrilling atmosphere, different from the past, making it a memorable event for all.”

The return of the marathon has been made possible by the tireless efforts of Themba Mhlophe, the event organiser and veteran administrator, who secured approval from the City Fathers to use White City Stadium as the venue.

The marathon will feature a 21km, 10km, and 5km race, along with a wheelchair race, allowing athletes of all abilities to compete.

Registration opened on January 15 and closes on April 15, with an entry fee of US$15.

Participants who register early will receive a running vest and cap, and the first 500 finishers will earn medals.

Baldmin Holdings’ sponsorship underscores their commitment to supporting local events and engaging with the community through sport.

Their support has brought a sense of pride to the city, ensuring the event’s successful return.

With over 500 participants expected, excitement is building as the race approaches. Event organisers have also worked closely with Bulawayo City Council (BCC) to ensure logistical and safety measures are in place.
