GARETH Bale has left quite a few defenders wishing the ground would swallow them up, but none more so than at the weekend. The world’s most expensive player left Rayo Vallecano’s Anaitz Arbilla for dead during Real Madrid’s 3-2 win. The visitors were two goals to the good when Arbilla found himself missing an interception and almost ending up in the stands as Bale flicked a ball past him.
Bale skipped beyond his man and laid on for Cristiano Ronaldo to easily tap in.
At that point Madrid looked out of sight, with Arbilla’s embarrassment clearly evident.
His manager, Paco, had clearly seen enough and hauled the 26-year-old off minutes after the goal.
The outpouring of emotion was astonishing.
Arbilla made his way to the bench, slumped in his seat and burst into tears under a training top.
He was consoled by a team-mate but the damage had already been done.
Vallecano obviously felt for their man and rallied to hit back with two penalties in the moments following Arbilla’s withdrawal, but weren’t able to complete the comeback.
Bale, now making his markers cry.
