Bambo calls for focus

HARARE City coach Moses Chunga says he does not want his charges to be carried away by their new-found form after winning the last two games ahead of a showdown against Dynamos at Rufaro on Saturday.

This will be Chunga’s first game at home since taking over at the Sunshine Boys three weeks ago.

Chunga started his tenure on a flying start with two tricky away tests which he passed with flying colours after beating Ngezi Platinum Stars 2-1 and Bulawayo City 2-0 at their backyards.

But the former Zimbabwe international yesterday told The Herald that his team is still work in progress after they rose into sixth place on the log standings with 15 points.

Stand-in captain Francisco Zekumbawira and Martin Vengesai scored City’s 13th and 14th goals of the season against Bulawayo City at the weekend to give them a healthy goal difference of plus six on the log standings.

Harare City were on 10th place when Chunga took over, but his arrival has changed fortunes for the side.

“Obviously I’m pleased by the results, but we shouldn’t get carried away. We haven’t played many games yet to say we have done well, remember there are 20 more matches ahead of us before the end of the season.

“So for now we are still trying to re-establish ourselves as a team. We need consistency and once we win games consistently confidence will also come. But I am happy we are getting the goals from everywhere,” said Chunga.

The Sunshine Boys resume training today when they welcome Blessing Moyo, Farai Madhananga, Talent Chawapihwa and Raphael Manuvire who have returned from national duty with the Warriors following Zimbabwe’s elimination at the COSAFA tournament currently underway in Namibia.

“We played a difficult game at the weekend and I think after such an intense match the players need something like 48 hours to recharge. For now the focus is on preparations for the game against Dynamos than on the match itself.

“It is a good thing to have everyone we can have. We welcome back everyone, but their presence does not change our approach, we still need to prepare well for Dynamos.

“I treat this match like any other match and I know there could be a lot of sub plots in this as is always the case whenever I play Dynamos with a different side,” said Chunga.
