PHINEAS Bamusi has decided to remain with CAPS United for at least one more year as have most of the old horses who did duty for the Green Machine in the 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.
The silky winger, whose current deal with Makepekepe lapses at the end of this month had indicated that he was leaving the former champions to pursue his career elsewhere.
But his love for the Lloyd Chitembwe-mentored team coupled with club president Farai Jere’s reverse feeling have prompted the former Harare City and Triangle player to rethink.
“I am not going anywhere. Of course, my contract with CAPS United is coming to an end on December 31 but principally speaking, I have another one already on the table,” said Bamusi.
“My camp and the team have already agreed on everything and we will have a one-year deal signed any day.
“So basically, I am saying as things stand, I am a CAPS United player and I will also be one next season.
“The good thing is we have agreed on everything that needed to be agreed on. I trust every process we have undertaken because of the mutual respect that exists between me and the club administration.
“I am very happy to get another opportunity to play for Makepekepe. We have really come a long way and I think it is only appropriate for me to remain attached to this team that I also love with all my heart”.
Bamusi is a loved lot at the Green Machine given the key roles he played in Makepekepe’s success Premiership story penned in 2016 when Chitembwe led the team to championship glory for the first time in 11 years.
He was a vital cog in a team that had so many impressive stars like Hardlife Zvirekwi, Leonard Tsipa, Ronald Pfumbidzai, Devon Chafa and goalkeeper Edmore “ZiKeeper” Sibanda.
Although he briefly left, joining Triangle in 2018, whom he helped win the Chibuku Super Cup that same year, Bamusi was lured back by both the CAPS United management and their fans who always showed him love each time Triangle played against the Harare giants.
But he has had a subdued season, probably one of his worst since cutting his Premiership teeth at Buffaloes, in a 2023 season that saw Makepekepe playing more like an average outfit.
There is no doubting his class though and both Jere and Chitembwe agree.
Bamusi said his preoccupation at this juncture is to have some rest with his family before he recalibrates for the coming season.
“At the moment, we are already in a festive mood and I am spending most of my time with my family. You know our career. We are rarely with our families so this is the time to be with them.
“I can’t say anything about next season because there is still a long time to go. I am enjoying it but keeping fit and we will see what the future will likely bring when pre-season begins,” he said.
“I am really happy to remain with CAPS United. I have made up my mind. This is my home and I believe I can still give the team something”.
