atmosphere at Rufaro as DeMbare edged Liga Muculmana 1-0 for a 3-2 aggregate win. BancABC representative, Cynthia Chinzwina, said the Glamour Boys’ victory was a refreshing development.
“We are very delighted to witness Dynamos progress to the second round of the Champions League and we are proud to be associated with them,” said Chizwina.
“Going into the second leg match, after posting a good result in Maputo, as their sponsors we never doubted their capacity (to progress).
“The win was important for the country as Dynamos continues to fly the Zimbabwe flag high in Africa.
“After beating Liga Muculmana, we ave confidence in the players that they can do the job again in Tunisia although it will be a difficult encounter altogether. The current crop of players, with their confidence high, can reach the mini-league phase. We want to salute the soccer fans that came in their numbers to rally behind the team from the first whistle right up to the end of the match.
“Their support was a motivating factor to the players and it played a crucial role.”
Charles “CNN” Mabika, the director of ceremony during that Champions League clash at Rufaro, whipped the crowd into a frenzy when he asked them to do the Zora Butter dance routine shortly before the match.
The response, which appeared to come from all the four packed stands, was spontaneous and seemed to inspire the Dynamos players.
Mabika also did well by using the public address system to ask the fans to back their team throughout the match and not to boo the players if the going got tough. The supporters’ response was brilliant and it had a huge bearing on the outcome on Sunday.
After a number of pretenders tried to play the master of ceremony role at big matches at Rufaro last year, Mabika has come as a refreshing voice and gives a different dimension to the whole game.
