POLICE in Kwekwe have launched a manhunt for a BancABC employee who disappeared with more than $19,000 belonging to the bank. The suspect, William Nqatha, 37, whose last known address was House Number 9 Tongogara Street, Redcliff, allegedly stole the money from an automated teller machine (ATM) at the bank’s Kwekwe branch on February 26.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko said:
“Nqatha opened an ATM at BancABC where he was employed and stole money amounting to $19,720.00. The matter only came to light when the bank’s closed circuit television video clip was viewed and showed the suspect unlocking the bank’s ATM room and taking all the cash in the ATM trays.”
Police have been hunting for Nqatha without success.
Insp Goko appealed to members of the public who might have information leading to the arrest of the suspect to assist them. He said there was a reward of $1,000 to be offered to anyone who would help the police arrest Nqatha.
“We are appealing to anyone who might have any information that might help us apprehend Nqatha to contact Detective Sergeant Rundoza on 0772 742 379 or ZRP Redcliff on (055) 68601-2 or any nearest police station to them,” said Insp Goko.
