156 graduate at Mpilo

MPILO Central Hospital in Bulawayo yesterday issued certificates to 156 pupils who were on an internship programme at the institution to familiarise them with hospital jobs. Mpilo’s chief executive officer, Dr Lawrence Mantiziba, said it was a career guidance opportunity for the pupils. “We are engaging children from various schools in the city so that they understand how a hospital operates and get practical experience. We have 10 departments in the hospital and the pupils selected departments they preferred,” said Dr Mantiziba.

He said pupils from three schools in Mzilikazi district were taking part in the programme.
“This term pupils from Mzilikazi, Sobukhazi and Northlea High School have been chosen for the programme and 156 pupils have graduated today and were issued certificates,” he said.

Dr Mantiziba said the programme was part of efforts to impart education to the upcoming generation.
“This hospital is on the right path of being supportive to its community. We do these programmes to develop the community and secure our children in the commercial world,” he said.

Handing over the certificates, Bulawayo provincial education director, Dan Moyo, commended Mpilo for taking the initiative to expose pupils to possible career paths.
“We want to thank Mpilo for introducing this programme as it is a welcome addition that improves the education curriculum. Children will know work ethics, what to expect in the commercial world and also sharpen their minds on choosing careers,” said Moyo.
