Banda, Magaya missing from eligible Zifa candidates

THE long much anticipated list of candidates to run for Zifa Board positions has finally been released with big guns missing from it.

Walter Magaya, Benjani Mwaruwari, Farai Jere, Themba Mliswa and Gift Banda are not among the candidates in a list released this evening by the Zifa Electoral College for the January 25 elections.

The electoral process began on 22 November with the adoption of the new constitution at a Zifa annual general meeting in Harare.

December 4 was set as the date when the nomination process would begin with papers submitted on 11 December.

Today was the designated day for the announcement of candidates.

In the list just released the trio do not appear while Mwaruwari confirmed he did not make it, while it could not be ascertained if in the first place Banda and Magaya who were touted as favourites had thrown their names into the hat.

Jere and Mliswa had confirmed their candidature.
