TOURING Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team made a flying start in the three-match one-day international series by beating Zimbabwe by eight wickets in the first match at Queens Sports Club ground in Bulawayo yesterday.
Bangladesh women are playing a three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo as part of their preparations for the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers 2021 scheduled for Harare from November 21 to December 5.
Nahida Akhter, Salma Khatun and Jahanara Alam grabbed three wickets each, while conceding three, six and 18 runs respectively to dismiss Zimbabwe for 48 runs in 23.2 overs.
In reply, Bangladesh women easily reached their target, scoring the match-winner 49 runs for two wickets in 10.4 overs.
After dismissal of their two openers, Murshida Khatun (7) and Sharmin Akhter (8) for 21 runs in 4.4 overs, Donw Fargana Haque and Rumana Ahmed carried the team towards victory by contributing 28 runs for the third wicket stand.
Fargana scored 11 not out off 21 balls, while Rumana made an unbeaten 20-ball 16 runs featuring three fours.
The two teams will play the remaining two ODIs on Saturday and November 15 at the same venue. — United News of Bangladesh
