adminSpeaking at a press conference at their offices yesterday, the Bantu Rovers’ spokesman Wilbert Sibanda said his club was committed to developing players.
This is the first time for a Zimbabwean club to participate in the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup tournament which has seen stars like David Beckham, Raul Gonzales and Giovanni Dos Santos emerge.
“Our Under-19 side has been invited to the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup tournament in the USA. This will be a tremendous opportunity for our players to showcase their talent alongside some of the best players of their age in the world and underlines Bantu Rovers’ commitment to developing young players,” said Sibanda.
Tshintsha Guluva will be taking along 16 players and four officials for the trip.
Only players who were born on August 1993 and after will travel to the US.
National Under-20 skipper Edwin “Cheese” Nkomo and Pride Ziwengwa are some of the players that have failed to make it due to the strict age limit.
Former Highlanders and national team midfielder Johannes Ngodzo is the coach of the touring squad.
“We will be taking along some of our new signings and also players from our last season’s Under-18 team. The travelling squad will be announced next week,” Sibanda said.
Under-20 national team player Nqobizitha Masuku, the Moyo twins Kelvin and Elvis and Marvellous Nakamba are expected to make it into the final 16. According to Sibanda, Manchester United, Everton and Paris St Germain are some of the clubs that will send their junior teams to the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup.
