BANTU Rovers shot back to the top of the Southern Region Division One Soccer League log after their 1-0 win against Bulawayo Chiefs in a match that was played at Luveve Stadium on Saturday.
Former Highlanders midfield dynamo Johannes Ngodzo made the difference as his solitary strike bagged Tshintsha Guluva the precious three points.
Bantu Rovers’ spokesperson Wilbert Sibanda yesterday said they were happy with the points and were happy that their young team did well with the help of some experienced players.
“A win is a win although the match was a tight one as our opponents had a mental edge because they beat us in the first fixture but the players stood the test.
Another positive was that we fielded a relatively young team as Nqobizitha Masuku, Kelvin and Elvis Moyo were on national duty, Marvellous Nakamba is in France on trials while Pride Zivengwa and Ray Lunga were out injured and these are our first team players but those that were called stood up well.
“I however will single out Abraham Mbaiwa our new acquisition from Chicken Inn who had a great game on his debut but overall the team did well and we are happy with the points,” he said.
Meanwhile, How Mine’s coach Sheunesu Chaka blasted Zifa and Zimbabwe Saints for postponing their fixture as he said it disturbs their rhythm.
“Look we have been playing well and we had prepared well for Zimbabwe Saints only to be told that the match was cancelled and I do not know what games Zifa and Saints are playing as they have disturbed our rhythm.
“They proposed a mid-week match but we turned that down as we will be pressed,” Chaka said.
He however went on to say the game in hand they have could be an advantage for them.
Zimbabwe Saints coach Edmore Sibanda explained that they had asked for clearance from Zifa not to play as they had to go to Binga for a social tournament in which they hoped to unearth some players to draft into the team.
“We need players and our chairman got an invitation from Binga for a tournament and he was asked to bring his team and we excused ourselves from Zifa and went to play a Binga select but there was no malice on our part,” Sibanda said.
