Zivengwa utilised the space he found himself in and unleashed a low strike from a long way off which bounced in front of a diving Kudakwashe Zhou in goal for Chikwata to nestle at the back of the net.
Bantu Rovers coach Reuben Tsengwa said he is happy with the six points within three days that his team amassed but felt his boys had wasted some scoring opportunities in the first half.
“We could have scored three or four goals in the first half but we squandered the chances but overall I am satisfied since we have collected six points within three days after our 2-0 win over ZPC Hwange on Friday,” Tsengwa said.
Zimbabwe Saints upped the tempo in the second half as they searched for the elusive equaliser with the veteran duo of Chipo Tsodzo and captain Tapela Ngwenya threatening but without result.
Ngwenya had a tame header in the 59th minute safely collected by Wallace Magalane in goal for Bantu but Saints were to count their blessings in the 77th minute when Njabulo Moyo hit the crossbar with Zhou off his line.
Bantu Rovers’ Evans Mwanza was to hit the crossbar again in the 84th minute with Zhou on full stretch but well beaten.
These were to be Tshintsha Guluva’s rare but deadly forays towards the Chikwata goal with the latter more dominant after the interval but all for nothing.
Zimbabwe Saints coach Edmore Sibanda said the poor surface let them down. He said they were now focusing on their next match.
“The poor surface let us down as the goalkeeper could have collected the ball had it not bounced in front of him but we now have to focus ahead and try winning our next game,” Sibanda said.
