Hip-hop artiste Mzingaye Roderick Sibanda, popularly known as The Shoemaker, is embracing a more intimate side of his artistry with the release of his latest single, Khumbula, a love song inspired by his relationship with his wife.
The track invites listeners to reflect on the cherished moments that mark the beginning of a relationship. Through nostalgic lyrics, The Shoemaker revisits the memories that brought two people together, encouraging couples to appreciate the journey they have shared.
“Khumbula is a love song inspired by my wife. The title is a Ndebele word meaning ‘remember’,” he said.
The single is available on major audio and video streaming platforms.
Over the years, The Shoemaker has seamlessly blended hip-hop with Afrocentric influences, while showcasing his multilingual ability by recording and performing in Ndebele, Shona, English, Zulu, Xhosa, Chinyanja, Tswana, Pedi and Nambya. His music has explored themes ranging from love and identity to social commentary, earning him recognition as one of Bulawayo’s distinctive voices on the contemporary music scene.
The artiste’s growing catalogue includes the projects Mzingaye (2013), Methylated Spirits (2014) and The Compilation (2017). He has also collaborated with an array of artistes, among them Killemol, Msiz’Kay, Rockie Doub, Luminous, Junior Garnet, Sox da Poet, the late Calvin, Prozac, P.O.Y, Orthodox Six, Mash Zim and Willie Gates Africa.
Although he has an album titled A Little Hate Music in the pipeline, The Shoemaker says he is in no rush to attach deadlines to his future releases.
“Music is coming; let’s just keep it at that for now. The plan is to follow inspiration, not a set timetable,” he said.
