FORMER Premiership outfit Bantu Rovers will hold trials next week to identify players who will help in their quest for a top flight berth next year. The Zifa Southern Region Division One side finished third last season with 54 points behind championship winners Bulawayo Chiefs (Plumtree Chiefs) and Black Boots.
Club secretary Wilbert Sibanda said they want to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
“We are holding trials to give new players a chance to prove themselves at the club as we are using an open-door policy to recruit. Our aim is to add new faces to the team before we start our pre-season,” said Sibanda.
Bantu Rovers have been busy on the transfer market as they have already added landed four new faces.
“We have signed four players so far, but they will be unveiled next week when we hold trials,” he said.
Sibanda said they are looking forward to a positive start this season.
“Last year we had a bad start and managed to bounce back towards the end of the season. It is crucial for us to pick points at the start of the season because the league is won and lost then,” he said.
Former championship winning coach Methembe “Mayor” Ndlovu is mostly likely set to bounce back into the dressing room as head coach. He is believed to have told close friends that he will be taking over the coaching role after years in the horizon due to a Zifa match-fixing ban.
Bantu Rovers should be title favourites because of their strong finish in the past two seasons and their ambition to add more players to their already strong squad.
