SOUTH AFRICA’S senior women team are expected in the country today ahead of their friendly international clash with the Mighty Warriors at Rufaro on Friday. Banyana Banyana, who drew 2-2 at home with their Zimbabwean counterparts in their last encounter in April this year, are preparing for the African Women’s Championship to be hosted by Namibia next month.

Coach Vera Pauw said it was important that his team remain in good shape ahead of the tournament. “We need to play more matches before the African Women’s Championships as this will give us an opportunity to keep practising what we have learnt,” Pauw told the Safa website. “The ladies know what is expected of them, from here on we have to master what we have learnt.

We need to get the team physically ready for an intense high level of play.” Banyana Banyana started their preparations for the African Women Championships with a 4-0 win over Botswana last month.  They also beat the African Women’s Championships hosts, Namibia, 2-1 on Saturday in Windhoek.

The Mighty Warriors, who reported for camp on Monday evening, yesterday stepped up their game in anticipation of a fiery battle.
