LONDON. — Barclays English Premier League soccer club Chelsea is set to offload Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel. Chelsea are keen on adding highly-rated French midfielder Paul Pogba to their ranks despite manager Jose Mourinho already spending £60 million this summer on Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa.
Mourinho is believed to want more strength in Chelsea’s midfield following the club’s underwhelming 2013-14 campaign.
Mikel who lost his place in the Chelsea first-team to Nemanja Matic is likely to make way at the club this summer according to British newspaper, the Standard.
The Standard reports that Chelsea can raise revenue for what would be a club-record signing of Pogba by selling fringe members in the squad and are also prepared to listen to offers for Mikel and Ramires.
Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, has consistently stated the France international is staying with Juventus but the Italian champions may be tempted to sell in order to fund summer bids for their top targets.
Juventus will demand a minimum of £60 million for Pogba and Chelsea face stiff competition from Paris St-Germain and Manchester City for the former Manchester United midfielder. — Supersport.com
