A BAR lady at Mandisa Night Club in Mutare allegedly stole US$1 378 from her employer recently.
Tanyaradzwa Meda was remanded in custody after failing to give her proper residential address when she appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Perseverance Makala, facing theft of trust property as defined in Section 113(2)(d) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.
She pleaded not guilty.
The court initially granted her $80 000, but the bail was revoked after Ms Makala quizzed her about her exact permanent address.
While in court, Meda gave a different residential address from the one that was provided on the State papers.
She was remanded in custody to December 20 for trial.
Ms Loice Kadenha prosecuted.
Ms Kadenha said on November 15, Meda unlawfully and in violation of a trust agreement with the proprietor of Mandisa Night Club, Bonface Nyamanhindi, which stated that she should keep the complainant’s cash, stole US$1 378 from her employer.
“On the November 14, Meda who was employed as a bar lady commenced duty and was given US$70 as float and US$50 from dancers by the complainant.
“On November 15, Meda finished her shift and took all the money and went home. On the same day around 7am, Nyamanhindi was called by his general hand informing him that she wanted to clean the club, but all the doors were locked. Nyamanhindi tried to call Meda, but her phone was not reachable,” said Ms Kadenha.
She said Nyamanhindi proceeded to the CCTV to check what had transpired. “Nyamanhindi discovered that Meda proceeded to her room after work and packed all her belongings. She was picked by a black Toyota Raum vehicle and left to an unknown destination,” she said.
Ms Kandenha said Nyamanhindi checked in the counter and discovered that all the previous night’s sales money had been stolen.
He made a report at ZRP Mutare Central and investigations were instituted.
Meda was arrested in Highfields, Harare where she was hiding.
The total value stolen of the money stolen is US$1 378 and nothing was recovered.
Ms Kandenha said Nyamanhindi checked in the counter and discovered that all the previous night’s sales money had been stolen.
