Barclays Bank upgrades IT platform

project will enable the international bank to improve the communication network linking branches and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) countrywide.
Barclays Bank of Zimbabwe managing director Mr George Guvamatanga is upbeat about the new development which he views as a continuing drive towards the utilization of the internet for banking and e-commerce.
“The WAN fibre-optic connectivity project aims to improve the link between the branches and ATMs.
“It replaces the limited-capacity VSAT technology with an efficient fibre-based one and ensures easier internet banking and transactions,” said Mr Guvamatanga.
Zimbabweans are moving in to grasp internet banking amid the wide ranging view that there is greater need to utilise the internet for banking and e-commerce to ease transactions.
Conventional banking (using the banking hall) has always been slow and time consuming, so much that customers have to wait several hours to process a simple transaction. Information technology has now fundamentally changed the global complexion and face of the banking industry. A host of electronic and Internet based services have found their way on to the local market thanks to the expanded availability of internet facilitated by local companies such as Econet, Africom and Powertel. — CAJ News.
