Barclays donates to Unicef

Barclays Bank of Zimbabwe donated a total of US$45 000 to the United Nations Children’s Fund for child-friendly budgeting training workshops to train children on interpreting and understanding of fiscal processes. The donation comes as an additional grant to the US$110 000 that Barclays gave to Unicef earlier in the year. The money is going towards the downstream training for the Child Friendly National Budgeting Initiative being rolled out by UNICEF.

UNICEF in partnership with the National Association of Non-Governmental Organisations, Zimbabwe Youth Council and Save the Children Zimbabwe conceptualised the child-friendly budgeting training workshops.

The project was initiated after acknowledging that children are often left out in the budgeting consultation process and it has been established that children’s issues are often not adequately addressed in the National Budget.

The formation, design and implementation of the project seeks to inspire the key principles of inclusiveness, participation, empowerment, fairness, equality, transparency and accountability in the budgeting process by relevant authorities through taking into account the children’s contribution.
