Barclays Zimbabwe officially launched its recently introduced Point of Sale (POS) acquiring devices last week in Victoria Falls. Barclays Zimbabwe wanted to visibly demonstrate how this product would support the Zimbabwean tourist sector which relies on fast and efficient card payment systems. Barclays POS machines enable Barclays customers and non-Barclays card holders of Visa, MasterCard and Maestro to safely transact by swiping at any Barclays POS terminal.
This significantly reduces the risk of carrying large amounts of cash to pay for goods and also reduces cash handling costs. The Barclays POS machines are fast and convenient as a transaction will only take seconds to complete.
They are portable and connect to both GPRS (mobile network) and ethernet connections, allowing for mobility and fast connectivity. Barclays POS machines have been distributed across the country covering major towns including the resort town of Victoria Falls.
Speaking at the official launch, Barclays Managing Director, George Guvamatanga said, “When we develop and introduce new products, Barclays is cognisant of how these products and services will support the growth of our key sectors within the economy. The world is increasingly becoming digital and travellers have long since stopped carrying large amounts of cash. We strongly believe that the launch of our Point of Sales machines will provide a safe and secure means for visitors to transact while positioning Zimbabwe as a dream destination for the international community.”
