Bars go empty as revellers flock to Gwanda Gospel Show

GWANDA bars received a big blow last weekend as revellers dumped them for a Gospel extravaganza at Phelandaba Stadium.

The free gospel show saw many people from different churches joining hands to be part of the show and bar revellers were no exception.

The sound system which could be heard kilometres away drew a lot of attention from many who couldnat help, but leave their imbibing habit for a?non-intoxicating funa? as the organiser of the show Justice Maphosa calls it.

A snap survey by B-Metro around the mining town revealed that indeed the show won hearts of many bar revellers.

The usually busy and noisy bars in the locations were the worst affected with Cry Mantengwane closer to Phelandaba Stadium, registering a countable crowd.

Njanji and Crystal bars in Spitzkop closed shop early as there were no customers to entertain.

Njula Bar also had a small crowd almost the same number with Mkhekhelezi Bar which is usually a beehive during weekends.

Though packed during the day, BBQ Gardens and Lime light bars were empty during the night as people left the joint to be part of the worshipping crowd.

One of the waitresses at BBQ Gardens, Nomalanga Moyo on Saturday said that they were going to have a low weekend.

a?This has become a tradition, we know that during the gospel show weekend, business will be low as our usual patrons flock to the ground. Even last year, the situation was the same,a? said Sibanda.
