BaShupi ties knot

MUSICIAN BaShupi (real name Peace Ndlovu) will tomorrow tie the knot with his fiancé-cum-manager – Wadzanai Gumbo at the Lutheran Church of Zimbabwe in Gweru.

According to BaShupi, all is set for the “strictly by invite” wedding which will feature popular artistes as bridesmaids and groomsmen, though he chose to be mum over their names.

“I have fellow musicians who have agreed to help me walk down the aisle but I can’t reveal who they are. I know if I do, the venue will be overwhelmed by fans,” BaShupi said.

BaShupi has in the past worked with artistes Souljah Love, Pee Kay and Stunner. Rising guitarist and singer, Tariro NeGitare is one of the artistes billed to perform at the wedding reception.

The Harare-based Godo hit-maker said they chose to get married in Gweru as it was a central location for both families.

“My wife is from Gweru and most of her relatives are from there. My relatives are also from Bulawayo, Shurugwi and Masvingo so we found it convenient to get married in Gweru as it was a central place for all parties,” BaShupi said.

The musician met Gumbo – also an artiste in her own right – at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) two years ago. He told The Chronicle he could not wait to do the wedding vows tomorrow.

“I believed in love at first sight when I met Wadza at Hifa two-and-a-half years ago. Since I liked what I saw, I gathered the courage to talk to her. I guess she liked me too as we started dating a few months later. And now we’re getting married,” a bubbly BaShupi said.

BaShupi, who has been living with Gumbo, paid her bride price in June this year at a traditional ceremony held in Gweru.

Gumbo doubles up as his manager after taking over from Tsungi Zvobgo earlier this year.
