Battle for control of St Augustine’s Mission rages on

school.
The shortages were attributed to in-fighting within the Anglican Church.
The Manicaland Anglican Diocese aligned to Archbishop Nolbert Kunonga runs the school while a faction led by Bishop Chad Gandiya also claims authority over the school.
However, parents want Government intervention to bring sanity at the institution. They are demanding the establishment of an SDC to oversee the transparent running of the school and administration of funds.
Manicaland provincial education director Mr Andrew Chigumira has ordered a meeting between parents and school authorities.
“I have received correspondence from the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture directing that the parents’ representatives of the above school arrange two dates to meet here,” Mr Chigumira said in a letter to the parents.
According to correspondence between the parties, the school authorities have refused to meet parents as agreed during a meeting last month.
“We had a meeting on the 17th August, 2012 with Reverend Matambanadzo and Mr Masvikeni and several phone calls were made to their offices trying to contact the responsible authority regarding this issue, but we are not welcomed.
“Since the permanent secretary wanted to meet both parties before schools open we are appealing to the Ministry of Education to help us have a way forward for the betterment of our children’s welfare,” said a letter by parents’ representative, Mr Admire Mpofu, to Manicaland provincial education director.
Mr Mpofu said parents indicated that they wanted church ethics to be separate from administration of the school. He also noted that church politics should not affect children and teachers.
