BATTLE lines have been drawn for the elective Zimbabwe Chess Federation annual general meeting which is now set for November 2 in the capital.
The AGM will see outgoing Secretary General Todd Mapingire battling it out with former Harare Professional Chess League president David Mutenure for the presidential post.
ZCF is looking forward to electing new office bearers for the next four-year term after outgoing president Muchakanakirwa Mkanganirwa showed that he is not going for a second term.
Mapingire a seasoned administrator will come up against former Harare Chess Province president Mutenure with both candidates having already rolled out their manifestos.
The election dates which were announced three weeks prior to the AGM will see the chess affiliates voting for their preferred candidates. Both candidates promised to take the sport federation to new heights by providing provincial league structures.
Mapingire, said he is ready to save the association as its president if the stakeholders showed confidence in him by electing him.
“Under my executive I promise to take Zimbabwe chess to new heights, fostering a culture of excellence,
inclusivity, and innovation that empowers players, educators, and enthusiasts across the nation if elected into office.
“We will navigate the challenges ahead, ensuring that the Zimbabwe Chess Federation not only survives but thrives, continuing to inspire and uplift our beloved game of chess for years to come.
Mutenure on the other hand has promised the electorate a diversity in terms of running the federation.
“I will ensure we have a professionally run federation that has a functional structure, projects, and events in every province. “We will ensure that the federation operates in a professional chess environment while adhering to transparency, fairness, and stakeholder engagement,” said Mutenure.
