Four of Bulawayo’s oldest townships are set to participate in the second edition of the Bulawayo Battle of Amakasi football tournament set for 22 to 24 December.
The tourney will feature teams from four suburbs Nguboyenja, Mzilikazi, Entumbane, and Makokoba.
Four junior teams from the same suburbs will battle for honours as well.
The younger players will play at Sotshangane Grounds on 22 December while the social teams representing their respective townships will battle it out at Crescent Grounds with the final set for the following day at the same venue.
One of the organisers of the tournament, Lady Tshawe said: “The incentives in the tournament should bring about the passion and unity through sports, and amakasi (townships) coming together in one place to compete.
“Social soccer sides and junior teams will also feature in this edition as a way of handing an opportunity to everyone in the communities to take part.”
The Bulawayo Battle of Amakasi comes at a time when the festive season is at its peak.
Surprise ex-footballers are expected to mix and mingle with aspiring soccer players as a way of motivating the youngsters.
The first edition experienced a number of challenges, chief among them being members of the community feeling left out thus the decision to fusing teams to try to involve as many people as possible in this year’s edition.
Full bar catering and local DJs are set to light up the mood for the event.
