YESTERYEAR football stars that played for Zimbabwe Saints and Highlanders are set to clash at the close of a one-day youth tournament at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday, sponsored by a UK-based former footballer.

Six teams from the Under-13s to Under-17s are scheduled to meet in an annual youth tournament bankrolled by former Zimbabwe Saints player Lovejoy Mugadza, brother to ex-Warriors goalkeeper Muzondiwa Mugadza. Both brothers are based in the United Kingdom.

“The initiative to sponsor a youth tournament started last year when a group of ex-Zimbabwe Saints players started plans to revive the football club and we decided that the rebirth of Chauya Chikwata is not possible without junior structures.

“Zimbabwe Saints shaped the football careers of so many great footballers and hopefully our plans to revive the once great club will come to fruition next year,” said Lovejoy.

The youngest of the group ages, the Under-13s will kick off the tournament in the morning followed by an Under-15s game while the Under-17s conclude the youth event before ex-Bosso and Zimbabwe Saints players clash to end the day’s programme.

Former national team striker Agent Sawu will lead Zimbabwe Saints Legends from the front with Ephraim Chawanda, of the Dream Team fame, captaining the team while Muzondiwa will be in between the sticks for the side.

For the Bosso Legends, Tobias Mudyambanje, a defender in his playing days, will partner Rahman Gumbo in defence with Douglas Mloyi, Gift Lunga Senior and Peter Nkomo set to feature for the team
