Battle of ambitious Newboys in Div One

IT’S the battle of the ZIFA Northern Region Division One newboys this weekend. MWOS FC welcome Shamva Mine at Ngoni in Norton this afternoon.

The hosts forced a 0-0 stalemate last week against perennial fighters, Chegutu Pirates. at Pfupajena. Shamva  enjoyed a blistering start as they dismantled Karoi United 6-0.

Former CAPS United forward, Nicolas Alifandika, was the star of that fixture after scoring twice.

Veteran defender Brighton Tuwaya, who led Simba Bhora into the Premiership, is the captain of this side.

Shamva Mine coach, Ralph Kawondera, seems to have set his sights on a different fight.

‘‘He said maintaining their Northern Region League status remains his top priority.”It’s something which is worrying for our fans that this team gets relegated each time they get promoted.

“We had a good start and we are now getting the attention of many with some  labelling us title favourites, but I don’t think we are there yet. Our objective is to remain in the league but that’s not going to hold us back to utilise the chance of fighting for the championship if we can maintain this good start,” said Kawondera.

He revealed the significance of getting a positive result against the Panthers.

“They have assembled a good side with a fusion of senior players and youngsters.

“We have been preparing well for this match and if the boys can pay attention to detail, I’m confident of a positive result.

“It’s very key to avoid losing, especially during these early days of the season.”

Herentals Under-20 host Ngezi Platinum Stars developmental team at Motor Action Sports Club tomorrow.

The Young Students edged Golden Eagles 2-1 at Ellis Robbins last weekend.
