adminCape Town — SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter has called for patience following his side’s recent string of bad results in the 2016/17 campaign.
Having clinched the Nedbank Cup in a pulsating 3-2 victory against Orlando Pirates last season, in addition to making a number of big-name signing before the start of the current campaign, Matsatsantsa were expected to continue their form into the new season.
However, their first two games have yielded defeats in the Premiership and MTN8 to Platinum Stars and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively.
“Well the first two games, the first two games… if you are looking at the results I think you [the media] are doing exactly what you did last time I was at Kaizer Chiefs,” he told Goal.com website. “We got beat 4-1 by Sundowns, you pay no attention to the actual game you think 4-1… disaster, disaster, but then we won the next six or eight,” said Baxter on Tuesday.
“That same thing has happened once again, we dominated against Platinum Stars and then got done on a set-play, that’s football. Against Sundowns [last month]; it was a close game for the 70 minutes before their second goal went in – our motivation and organisation just disappeared and we lost the game 3-1.”
“Yes, 3-1 is not a great result, but if you pay attention to the game itself then people shouldn’t just translate it into a disaster so in terms of two games, it is one rainy day in the summer. I think that whatever work we were doing before, nothing has changed and we have to be better at everything,” he added.— Supersport.
