AS part of moves to improve brand visibility, the Bulawayo Basketball Association (BBA) has partnered NB23 Swish App, which will provide its league’s latest updates online.
The app allows fans to follow live updates, line-ups, statistics and player profiles in the Bulawayo Basketball League (BBL).
The app covers various basketball leagues around the world and BBL has been using it from the beginning of its season a fortnight ago.
BBA president Sinda Mono said the use of this app was a first in the country.
“Nb23 is an international organisation and we are dealing with their South African-based company. We signed a contract with Nb23 Swiss App whereby we stand to make monetary value depending on the number of subscribers that view our content.
We are still in the early stages of using the app, so it may we may not tell its effects now, but in future fans will be able to watch live action,” said Mono.
“We are in the process of ensuring that fans catch live action, but it’s a bit expensive and we are looking for a sponsor to help us as we continue to market our brand.”
Teams in the BBA league include Mavericks, Highlanders, City Knights, City Royals, Giants, Lakers, Legends, Clippers, Oilers and Nust.
Mono is spearheading the revival of the game in a bid to return it to its former glory since coming into office in June this year.
Mono believes the only way to reignite interest in basketball is to take the game back to young people, and this can only be achieved by forging relationships with secondary schools where the majority of potential basketballers are found.
Meanwhile, three local referees are officiating in the preliminary of the Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) Africa Champions Cup Women 2021, Zone 5 taking place in Dar es Salam, Tanzania.
They are Brilliance Ncube from Bulawayo, Vincensa Dyanda from Kwekwe and veteran Joyce Annie Muchenu from Harare. — @innocentskizoe
