Multi-award-winning Chronicle senior health journalist Thandeka Moyo-Ndlovu yesterday won the first prize for consistent and accurate reporting on HIV/Aids issues in the Matabeleland region.

Moyo-Ndlovu’s 12th journalism award was sponsored by the Aids and Health Foundation — a global non-profit organisation providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy on HIV issues.

She was the overall winner in the print category while Skyz Metro and the Centre for Innovation and Technology media houses won the broadcast and online media awards.

In an interview, Moyo-Ndlovu expressed gratitude to her colleagues for the continued support and the organisers for honouring her with the award.

“I feel so much honoured today and I will also like to take this opportunity to urge my fellow journalists to continue writing about HIV/Aids issues as we continue to fight the pandemic. This award will always be a reminder that it’s not yet over until we can safely say Aids is no longer an issue in Zimbabwe and hopefully that will be in 2030,” she said.

She expressed gratitude to her Chronicle colleagues for always pushing her to achieve more in her reportage as a health journalist.

According to the findings of the media adjudicating committee, there is a need for journalists to continue writing about Aids- related issues as the country moves towards ending Aids in 2030.

National Aids Council (NAC) chief executive officer Dr Bernard Madzima commended journalists from across all media houses in Zimbabwe for their continued dedication to raising awareness and informing communities on HIV/AIDS issues.
