BBO T20 Tournament down to final eight

THE Bulawayo Business Opportunities T20 Cricket Tournament has reached the quarter-final stage with matches lined up at the Heath Streak Academy and Bulawayo Athletic Club today.

The tournament began last Sunday.

At BAC, Select take on Queens at 9AM in the first quarter-final followed by an encounter between Tigers and Emakhandeni at 2PM in quarter-final number two.

The other two quarter-finals will be played at the Heath Streak Academy and will feature Panthers and Roosters at 9AM with the last game seeing BAC taking on Rangers in the afternoon.

Gary Nyumbu, a member of the organising committee said the BBO T20 tournament is meant to keep local cricketers in shape and provide entertainment to cricket lovers.

“The idea behind this tournament is to afford local cricketers an opportunity to keep in shape and fine tune their skills. It is our hope that through their participation at the BBO T20 competition the cricketers will be able to catch the selectors’ eyes. The other thing driving the tournament is the need to provide entertainment for local cricket enthusiasts in a family friendly environment. It is our hope that the people of Bulawayo will come in their numbers and support the cricketers in action,” said Nyumbu.

Winners from the first quarter final will meet the winners from the fourth quarter-final. The winners from the second quarter final will meet the winners from the third quarter-final.

All semi-finals will be played at BAC tomorrow.

Last weekend Queens knocked out Cobras who they beat by 92 runs having set a target of 140 after losing four wickets. Queens went on to bowl out Cobras for just 40 runs.

Tigers booked a quarter-final slot at the expense of Nust who they beat by 11 runs. Tigers scored 150 all out in 20 overs before wiping out Nust at 139 runs.

Rangers won against Nketa by eight wickets while BAC’s 291 runs for the loss of one wicket saw them clobber Champions by 233 runs.

Roosters beat Lupane by 183 while Emakhandeni won by 105 after the Duckworth and Lewis method.
