BANGLADESH Cricket Board XI yesterday took an 11-run lead with four wickets in hand by the end of DayTwo of the three-day warm up game against Zimbabwe — who are playing in this game as “The Zimbabweans”. Leg-spinner Natsai M’shangwe was the toast of The Zimbabweans bowlers, the spinner ending the day with figures of 4-98 in the 28 overs he bowled as he was responsible for the wickets of opener Shamsur Rahman, Marshal Ayub, Naeem Islam and Asif Ahmed.
First on his list was Rahman who was caught by Sikanda Raza Butt on 69 after facing 158 deliveries with nine fours and a six with the first delivery of the 51st over before Ayub (31 off 82) who was caught by Craig Ervine.
This was on his way to trapping Naeem Islam lbw just for 2 and finishing the day with an Asif Ahmed (23 off 22 with four fours) wicket.
But that was not enough to stop the BCB XI from going on top of their game, as they had two half centuries, the other one an unbeaten 53 from Shuvagata Hom who continues with Taibur Rahman who was on 15 by close of play yesterday.
Zimbabwe had set a target of 241, Raza top scoring with 44, Elton Chigumbura was on 39 while most of the Zimbabwean batsmen were in the 20’s
Reports from Bangladesh indicate that BCB XI had lost Shadman Islam on the first evening, but the team started the day well with the second wicket pair of Shamsur and Rony Talukder adding 93 runs. Rony made 46 off 81 balls with six fours. Shamsur then added 48 runs with Marshall Ayub,
However, in the afternoon session, Shuvagata added an unbroken 36 with Taibur Rahman to ensure no more wickets fell till the end of the day. Shuvagata was unbeaten on 53 off 124 balls with seven fours, while Taibur was 15 not out.
