BCC disposes of ageing fleet, equipment

THE Bulawayo City Council has resolved to dispose several of its ageing fleet of vehicles and equipment citing biting costs of maintaining such assets. The local authority’s latest monthly report issued yesterday indicates that the Engineering Services Department through the transport superintendent has already submitted a list of vehicles and different plant equipment for auction to the Financial Director Kempton Ndimande.

“Authority was sought to dispose of some council vehicles and other obsolete items through the public auction,” said Ndimande.

“Motor vehicles that had been identified for disposal included those that were accident damaged and those that were continuously breaking down and were no longer economic to maintain.”

Among the obsolete items included for auction are 17 small vehicles, Mazda pickup and T-35 trucks, three Bitelli drum rollers, concrete mixers, eight water bowsers, main hoists, graders and compressors, tipper trucks, excavators and loaders, computers, printers and other scrape materials.

Ndimande said council agreed to “dispose of its old and accident damaged motor vehicles as listed in the report through public auction and the auction be conducted internally through the Chamber Secretary’s valuation section”.
