VICE President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has condemned corrupt tendencies in both public and private sectors, calling upon all Zimbabweans to embrace ethics and good corporate governance for the country to achieve Vision 2030 development targets.
Officially opening the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute of Zimbabwe (CGAIZ) 2024 Annual Conference here on Thursday, he said corruption remains one of the major threats to national progress.
“Be ethical, be ethical, be ethical,” Dr Chiwenga appealed, drawing applause from the large gathering.
“The foundation of a prosperous and just society lies in strong corporate governance and ethical practices.
“Let’s work together towards creating a Zimbabwe where economic growth is not only rapid but sustainable and equitable.”
Vice President Chiwenga said adherence to ethics and embracing higher levels of integrity were critical in boosting investor confidence.
He said the Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa abbors corruption hence it has taken stern measures to weed it out, but needs collective stakeholder support for higher impact.
Dr Chiwenga said Government was committed to continue driving reforms that energise business development including the introduction of the Zimbabwe Gold (ZWG) currency and rolling out major infrastructure projects so as to make doing business more easier.
He challenged conference delegates to embrace technology and innovation in addressing future challenges including the stubborn resistance to change, which limits development progress.
The conference is being attendant by about 300 delegates and continues up to Friday under the theme: “Attaining Vision 2030: A Governance and Accountancy Transformative Agenda – Towards a Shared Future for Zimbabwe”.
